The Victor Aapartments, under construction on Auckland's North Shore, is a stylish apartment complex situated 200 metres from the beachfront in the hearts of Browns Bay.
At the early stages of the project, Zone were called into review the protective and intumescent coatings specification. The two-level basement was experiencing some flooding due to not yet having the full effect of the waterproofing system installed.
In order to achieve the required 25 year durability to first years major maintenance as per AS/NZS 2314:2014, Firetex FX9500 was selected as the decorative, fire protective coating because of its impressively hard and durable characteristics, which are typically suited to coastal environmental conditions.
Above ground, Zone’s Phoenix 170-120 solvent-borne single-pack intumescent was considered the best option, with its strong level of success throughout the country on similar projects.
Firetex FX9500, is a high volume solids coating, and Zone’s approved applicator, Topcoat Specialist Coatings, has built to the required film build in fewer passes, more quickly and achieved the required DFT’s. The right equipment, teamed with very experienced applicators, has ensured a successful outcome.
There has been no need for a costly top coat system and the durability of the epoxy coating will achieve this look for years to come, provide exceptional fire protection and require less repair maintenance than traditional intumescent.
The building is still under construction and we are looking forward to seeing the finished apartments.
